  1. Your extension is awesome and it really simplified things for me but i have a suggestion which can not only help me but it will be really helpful to others.

My suggestion is to make such a provision in the extension that a person with more than 1 gmail id can check his email. I mean if i have 5 email accounts then i have to login in each to check mail but once i have saved all the five logins in the extension then it will individually fetch new emails arrived in my mail box of all the email address i have saved in the extension.

If you made this provision it will really simplify lots of things.

Lastly i want to say that Thanks for making such a great extension and your efforts are really helping others :)

  2. Read the FAQs at the bottom of the extension page, mate. Due to the "cookies" problem, the extension can't work with multiple accounts. And no, I've got no plan to make the extension store the usernames and passwords locally. Other extensions have already done something like that, and I didn't like that approach. Hence, this extension was created.

I'm still experimenting with a way to swap the cookies around so that the browser would see only a particular set of cookies of an account at a time. That might make multiple accounts possible. But don't hold your breath.

  3. Thanks for the quick update. Now, for another problem. =) It seems the new version has some sort of cookie phobia. It more often than usual asks for Google Account info, even though I remain logged in. The counter actually reads "0" but I don't think the addon's able to check. I can still go to gmail.com and don't have to log in. Now this has happened in the past and I'd have to log out of gmail and then back in, but I didn't have to do it often. Now it happens probably more than twice a day.

  4. Arthur, open the Debug window while using the extension and try to reproduce the problem and then see what the log says.

  5. Currently using your addon for my gmail for domain. Very cool!

1.3.1 or 1.4 feature request: Possible to add a "open mail in new tab" checkbox? Cos I always forget to ctrl+click on the thing. :P

  6. Is it possible to remove the personally identifiable portion of the log or do I have to do that manually?

  9. Well, that appears normal. Also, was PROCESS: 23 the last message you got when you encountered the problem? Normally, it should be followed by LOAD FEED, OPENING CONNECTION, etc.

  10. That's when I got the "Google Log-In" dialog box, when I'm still logged in and could visit gmail.com to see my emails.

  11. Great addon. Works and acts better than Gmail Notifier and Manager.

One thing i'd like is to auto close the login dialon after it succesfully logs in.
by Jeton on Thursday, 17 July 2008, 04:10 pm #
  12. Arthur, the only reason I could think of is that the cookie, named GAUSR, used by the extension to determine the login status got deleted (most likely by some other extensions you've been using).
by NT on Friday, 18 July 2008, 04:28 pm #
  13. I have disabled all other extensions to see if that's the problem. Meanwhile, there's another. the checker frequently fails to either check or update the count after noticing mail that's subsequently read or deleted.

  15. The counter is only updated when a check-mail action is called either manually or automatically.
by NT on Saturday, 19 July 2008, 11:47 am #
  16. Yes, but the problem is the counter doesn't get updated well after the 1 min mark, which is how often I ask it to check mail. According to the logs it seems to know there's no new mail, but just doesn't show it on the status bar.

I have tried disabling all the add-ons. Haven't run into this counter problem yet, but I still intermittently get the Log-in dialog. Again, if I then go to gmail.com I'm still logged in, but to get the checker working again I have to log out and back in.
by Arthur Dent on Tuesday, 22 July 2008, 05:13 pm #
  17. Did the login window appear randomly or after a particular period of time after every login, and how is it compared with your check-mail interval?
by NT on Tuesday, 22 July 2008, 08:12 pm #
  18. I set check-mail every min. The counter problem is still around.

I hardly ever log out of gmail, basically only when the checker needs it. I rarely restart the browser, maybe 2-3 times a day.
by Arthur Dent on Thursday, 24 July 2008, 03:53 pm #
  19. Maybe in other version also would be nice if possible to check the account on start-up of the browser. Also put some colors, dude. Make it like real Gmail... red and white.. for no mails could be just empty white. Keep up the good work ::thumbsup::
by ToF on Thursday, 28 August 2008, 01:07 pm #
  20. Troublemaker here again. This time it seems the checker stopped doing the checking for a long time. Nothing to report from debug win. Have seen on 2 PCs. Have tried logging out.

Just started in the last few days.

  21. Gmail's severs are slow sometimes, so that's normal. I just noticed that you usually set the extension to check mail every minute. You may want to set the time a bit longer. Polling the servers too frequently isn't really a good idea.

  24. This is great! It works better that GMail Manager (which is broken ATM), and the ability to delete messages right from there is awesome!

But, what I don't understand, it why isn't it possible to log it in on startup - it uses cookies so what's the big deal? At least give us an option! And yes, I've read the FAQ on addon's page.

Also, how about opening a new tab if a letter clicked with the wheel/middle button? Because right now I have to open a new tab and click there - and I could load GMail there just as well. Please?
by asmodeus on Thursday, 12 February 2009, 09:21 am #
  25. Auto-login and middle-button click will be available in the next release, probably around the time when I finalise it for Firefox 3.1.
by NT on Thursday, 12 February 2009, 07:40 pm #
  26. Could you give us *approximate* release date? Like, "after %month%" or something.
by asmodeus on Thursday, 12 February 2009, 09:48 pm #
  27. Can't tell for sure. Those two features are quite simple to implement, but I'm working on multi-account logins at the moment. Depending on when Firefox 3.1 hits RC1, I'll package anything I'll have done by that time.
