Gmail Checker version 2.4

Sunday, 28 November 2010

Gmail Checker version 2.4 is now available at addons.mozilla.org.

I've just got Mac OS X installed on VMWare to play around with to check the right-click problem that has been reported. I can confirm it is the case. Hopefully I can find the cause and fix it in the next release.

Update: 3/12

You can get the English only version here.

  4. GMail Checker always show 0 messages since I transitioned my Google Apps account to new infrastructure. http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/topic.py?topic=28917 My aleks[a]hudochenkov.com must be processing like regular GMail account, but not like Google Apps account.

  5. Aleks, yeah I'm aware of the problem. It will be fixed in the next release.

  6. Awesome Firefox Add-on. I've been searching for something like this with hosted domain support and this works 100%. Thank you for your efforts.

  7. I have strange issues with gmail checker i didn't have with gmail notifier:
i keep gmail and google reader open for hours in the browser and sometimes reader disconnects, google chat too, gmail too....i need to login again.

it looks like the session gets closed/cookie deleted
    Any idea?

  8. @Patrizio I've the same problem. Ciao!

  9. @NT,

    any idea?

  10. Patrizio, the cookies were simply expired. It just happens like that. There's no way to work around it.

RoksVempire, the display problem you mentioned here is a Firefox's bug on Windows 7 or Vista from what I could see. There's no problem on XP so I've got no idea.

  11. In fact I've Vista...

  12. This was working fine for me (v2.3 & v2.4) - managing my 3 gmail accounts, but for some reason it's no longer working. The first symptom was that it forgot my passwords, even though I had the "Remember login session" box checked. My accounts aren't now listed in the menu, even though I have the "Show messages in the main menu" option checked and they are listed in the Manage Accounts window, and the number of unread messages is wrong.

  13. Nice addon, just one question.
Where can I change the language display?
'Gmail checker' now displays in 'Simplified Chinese' which is not what I prefer.

  14. Hi NT,

    why do the cookies expire?

i mean, it's due to the addon activity via atoms?
because without it i can keep gmail opened for days.

  15. @NT did u receive my email with icons?

  16. I'm curious if anyone else has been having trouble or if GMail did something to break Checker 2.4.
Currently when clicking the icon for the initial check/login it pops up a blank dialog box asking for username/email(login info stored locally). Subsequent checks cause the "working" icon to begin and never stop

Wiped out all saved passwords and rebuilt with just 2 emails. After managing to login, RightClick menu didn't display either and clicking the icon after opting for it to open the inbox I was instead directed to GMail's login page asking me for the password

  17. Hi Trinh

Great tool that you have written! Since version 2.4 I've got a problem that the number of mails in the inbox doesn't correspond. Google Mail shows me e.g. 24 and Gmail Checker only 20.

    ??? any idea ???

    Thanxs a lot!

  18. Great addon! Thanks a lot for your work!

I am just wondering can you enhance the snippet window to let all unred mail can be previewed by adding previous/next button. Just like the Gmail Manager addon, but it was dead... :(

  19. Why the popup shows me MY email account instead of the sender's name or address?
by Elvis Nigol on Sunday, 5 December 2010, 04:26 pm #
  20. Hello, NT!
I would like to thank you for this great addon! I have the same problem like the Aleks Hudochenkov mentioned, so I will wait until the new version comes out.

  21. Just tried out Gmail Checker since Gmail Notifier stopped working a few weeks ago. Nice work.

    Here are a few suggestions:
    - Add an option to disable the envelope icon from changing to the circular arrows whenever it checks for new mail. It becomes quite distracting when the checking frequency is high.
    - Move the number by the envelope just a little bit further to the right. It hugs it a bit too close. Also, making the number bold and slightly larger would be nice.
    - Let the statusbar position be configurable.

  22. RoksVempire, I've got the icons. Thank you. But I think the current icon set is all right.

Siciliano, this has been asked many times. It's a limitation of Gmail Atom feeds.

Dan, the snippet is implemented as per message's tooltip text. I don't want to group them into a separate window so that's not possible.

Elvis Nigol, version 2.4.1 now shows the sender's details in the popup.

    Cina:
    1. The icon is not designed to be customisable. But if you want, you can look into userChrome.css to change the properties in chrome://goobox/skin/goobox.css.
    2. Done
    3. Not possible
by NT on Tuesday, 7 December 2010, 11:30 pm #
  23. Please, make an option to customize, how much text can be previewed in Gmail Checker!
Right now - preview size is too small to make decision - delete message or go to mail page and view it fully.

  24. I have two gmail-accounts with no new emails but the gmail checker shows "-2". Even if I log out of all accounts it still shows "-2".

  25. Why is the authentification not working on Mac 10.6.6 and the actual 2.5.0.2?
I put my password into the Gmail Checker - Login Box but it is not accepted. But it is not wrong. I checked several accounts and settings without success.
And on Mac there is no Debug Button.
Is this only with my mac???

  26. Gmail Checker Version 2.5.0.2
    FF Version 3.6.13

Anyone get this to work with Google's 2-step verification yet?
by Chris on Tuesday, 22 February 2011, 02:28 pm #
  27. Same here: Gmail Checker 2.5.0.2 & Firefox 3.6.13

    It's not working with Google's 2-step verification.

Will this be addressed in a future release?
