Gmail Checker 2.4.2

Saturday, 11 December 2010

Version 2.4.1 has a bug which shows incorrect mail number when you open a new window. This has been fixed in version 2.4.2. You can get it from addons.mozilla.org or here (English version only).

  1. Haven't installed 2.4.2 yet, but I opted to say thanks for fixing the only truly good GMail addon left.

One thing tho, any chance it could be rigged so that when you enter a login into the "Log in to new account" that it either saves to the 'managed' list or an option for it to do such?

Either way, I am a happy panda again, thanks on a job well done :)

  3. Many thanks for this plugin.

The newest update may have a bug with logging in. I am ask repeatedly for my password when I attempt to check my e-mail.

It allows me to login in the first time when checking e-mail but any subsequent checking requires the password at the gmail site.

Everything was working well until the newest update.

    Thanks.

  5. When remembering login cookies on 2 computers, check mail icon spins continuously and never returns mail until browser is restarted. I believe this started sometime after 2.x.

I'm running GMail Checker 2.4.2 at home and at work. Usually one or the other is not online. I let it remember the login cookies but not the password. If I log out of an account, the icon stops spinning but I get no mail. If I log out of all accounts, and then check mail, the icon spins but never returns and then I don't have any account displayed so I can't log out to stop the spinning icon. I then have to restart Firefox, check mail, sign in to all accounts and everything is happy on the current computer but now mail checking is broke on the other computer until I restart that browser.

  6. I need to remove a gmail account, and it's not listing all the accounts in the "Manage Accounts" window. Uninstalling and restart doesn't do it, because it just reloads previous settings.

  7. Anysia, try deleting the file gmailchecker.sqlite under your Firefox's profile folder.

  10. Just a small bug report: the normal icon seems to be taller than other icons on my FF toolbar, but the "checking for new mail" icon isn't, so the size of my toolbar flickers while checking for new mail, which is a bit annoying.

Thanks for your hard work :)

  12. Very elegant extension - thanks. And all working perfectly here.
But is there any way of exporting the accounts and passwords so they can be read in to the extension on another machine?
by chris on Sunday, 2 January 2011, 08:52 am #
  13. Thank you for the extension. Very useful and working well.

    Two suggestions for consideration:
    1. Status bar icon change color if new email arrives (eg. to red). Resets back to original color if mailbox opened from icon or no new mail in inbox.
I'm not always at my PC when new email arrives so this would be an easy way to see if new email arrived since I've been away from my PC.

    2. I prefer the mailbox not open in the current tab so I select "Always open links in new tab" and that works great. However, is there any way that GMail Checker can check if a tab was already opened by GMail Checker and just open that tab (ie. select that tab) rather than opening a new tab altogether?

Thanks again for a great extension.

  14. Thank you a lot for this. Like many others, I had to find a replacement for GMail Manager, and so far, this is looking really cool. Lifesaver.

  15. Hi, tahnks for nice add-ons.
    Found out that Gmail Checker icon appears both in upper toolbar and in below bar left corner - cannot change this in settings;
By having 2 accounts in gmail, only single icon (green) appears, I need to right click on icon to see status of accounts, can accounts be visible by multiple icons?
    Thanks, Serass

  16. Hi,

As with many others recently switched to this extension after Gmail manager finally seems to have died. As per a couple of suggestions above two things I would love to see:

    1) reset counter when opening mailbox.
    2) Have the option to have an icon per mailbox, rather than all under one icon. My wife leaves emails unread for days (very frustrating), while I always read mine immediately!

But, can you just add an option for reset the counter when I opening the mailbox ?

    Thank you in advance !

  18. Hi,
I've also just switched from Gmail Manager, and the one feature I loved the most was the mail snippets being displayed when you hover over the main icon on the toolbar, instead of having to navigate through right-click menus. I searched but did not find a direct response to this on your site, are you planning to/could you please try to implement it?
    Thanks so much.

  20. I too am a happy convert from Gmail Manager. I like Gmail Checker quite a bit. I do have some minor issues with it. It sometimes will not log into account when clicked. I get the Gmail page and have to enter password there to see emails. This is minor and sometimes forces me to try several times to access accounts.

    Using:
    FF - 3.6.13
Win XP 64 bit Professional Service pack 2

  21. Hello,

    I have a bug with v2.4.2.

Often (not everytime) when I click on one of the mailbox that I have added in Gmail checker, the mailbox doesn't open automatically, I have the gmail connexion windows with the email filled but I have to tip the password to see the emails.

I hope you will fix it quickly.

    Thanks per advance !

  22. Hi,
    Win7 64 bit and Firefox 3.6.13 here.
All versions 2.1.1 and beyond will notify of new e-mail in acounts only (no launch & login).

Have tried all versions and only 2.1.1 will reliably launch gmail.com, pass account and password, logging in successfully.

Have tried with each version 2.2 and above (without success):
    Clearing all cookies.
Re-create all accounts (delete, retype account and password).
Login manually then trying "open account" in gmail checker.

Happy that this old version works.

Fearful of Firefox version upgrades breaking it.

Thank you for a great addon!

  24. When LISTING UNREAD EMAILS, it does not check the YEAR of the email, but just the month and the day.. So you can see last years or year before's January unreads above all the others.

    Thanks...
