Gmail Checker 2.5.0.91

Thursday, 22 September 2011

For anyone having the login problem with Google Apps accounts, try Gmail Checker version 2.5.0.91.

This version also supports 2-step verification. You need to generate an application-specific password for Gmail Checker for each of your accounts which use 2-step verification. This password must be saved locally in 'Manage Accounts'. This means that you need two passwords (one is your actual password, the other is the application-specific password) to check mail in this type of account.

*Disclaimer: Treat this as a beta release. The final release will be available soon.

Update: 23/9

If you still have the login problem with this version:

  • Log out of all your mail accounts
  • Enable only one account that has the problem in 'Manage Accounts'
  • Open the debug window (from About... in the menu)
  • Check mail
  • Save the debug log. Delete your logged password and then email me the log file.

  1. I've got a new strange problem. Just did the update to the latest version. I only use one gmail email address and have mail forwarded to another gmail address which I check with Gmail Checker. If I log out of one account and then sign in to the other account and log out of it...then I can't log back in to the account in Gmail Checker! Says "Password is Invalid"...but if I close Firefox 7 beta, and then all is accepted with the login info (the same info, password, account name, which in entered into Gmail Checker.

    Thought you might be interested in this, as it only just started a few days ago.

  3. Sadly still the same after update, have 13 email accounts working OK but 6 others can not be added: as the cannot access keeps popping up...no problem to manually log in to each of the 6? (non are 2 step)

  5. Why don't you add the middle click refresh to the addon? I've edited main xul and the js file to add this feature, I hope that you will ad this feature to the next versions, it is something tiny but really useful.

  6. In the news script, is it possible to just show the headlines on a different page? I want to show headlines (say 5 or 8) on my homepage which will then link to the news story. Thx

  11. Strange thing just happened..my calendar stopped working..! I Love this thing and have made every attempt to get it working again but cant..
    I changed the document root as you said to do..from the HTML..I even did a php root finder script..
    ..but still get a (Error: Wrong document root. Ask your host about it.)

    //-- document root --//
    $cal_cfg['document root'] = '/services3/webpages/a/f/afbawindgap.org/public/afba_calendar';

    ..when it was blank..it worked fine..

    //-- document root --//
    $cal_cfg['document_root'] = '';

  13. Plugin-toggler v.1.2.1
    In Firefox can you add name gathering so QuickTime Plug-in n.n.n and Microsoft Office nnnn only shows one name in the list instead of one for each item. quicktime has 7 items and office has 2. is there a way to itterate a name and disable any plugin with that name instead of listing every item?
    thx

  16. Hello,

    I'm using firefox 16.0.1 and Gmail checker 2.6.1
    I have generated my 2 step verification password and added it to my account.

    Username: myaccount@gmail.com
    password: left it blank
    Checkbox 'check mail in this account' checked

    When right click 'check mail now' I get a pop-up. I tried both my real password for that mail account as well as the 6 numbers that google provides for autentication.
    None work.
    However, when I put in my real password I get a popup stating :: "account@gmail.com" uses 2-Step Verification. You must save the application-specific password for Gmail Checker of this account in Manage Accounts ::

    I have that password set !!!!
    I even regenerated it without success.
    What am I doing wrong?

  17. Hi,

    firstly i must say: awesome addon! one of my all time favorites. thanks for this. :)

    i have a suggestion for it:
    it would be awesome if i could activate optional per account a notification ONLY for the IMPORTANT emails. so that i only get notification when the mail is marked as IMPORTANT. you know? the little yellow error before every mail that marked it as important.
    optional per account. that would be REALLY great. :)

    keep up the good work and i wish u all the best. :)

  18. Hi. Could you please move 'log out of all accounts' to the main menu. It would be easier to access there and makes more sense than having it in each email address's sub-menu. Thanks.
