GmailChecker 2-step verification

Saturday, 21 September 2013

Due to some changes on Gmail's side, GmailChecker does not work with 2-step verification anymore. I'm looking into it and will release an update soon.

Update 31/10:

I've just fixed the login problem. Please try this version and report if it works for you. It'd be helpful if you can check for both standard gmail.com and Google for domains accounts.

I haven't fixed the 2-step verification problem yet though. Will take a bit more time.

More update:

I think I've fixed the login and 2-step verification problem. Please try this version and report if it works.

I've uploaded version 2.6.3, which fixes the login issues, to mozilla.org.

  5. Today one of my logins that I routinely use to autologin with has stopped working in Gmail Checker. It keeps popping up the login box and keeps saying Failed to log in even though I enter the correct password. If I log in manually through the website it works fine. My other two gmail checker accounts have no problems.

I also can't use any new accounts with Gmail Checker. I get the login box popup over and over. I can send a debug log to you if you need.

  11. I have the same problem. In the middle of the day I get 42 failed to login messages(yes I have 42 gmail account so you see why I love your extension)however I can login to Gmail manually. I got home today everything was working fine as I went thru my email accounts and then the same problem with failed login. I have a debug log if needed.

  12. I have the same problem :-( I can log in through gmail website, but Gmail Checker keeps saying "login failed".
So I have to check manually for new emails :-(

  13. Same here, login failures.

Gmail Notifier works with multiple accounts. Don't like it as much as Gmail Checker but at least it works.

  14. exact same problem here. I absolutely love gmail checker! I hope you are able to come out with a work around for this latest problem. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

  15. Thanks for the awesome Gmail Checker addon!

Gmail Checker 2.6.2 stopped working for me on 29 Oct 2013 while on FF 24 and BEFORE upgrading to FF 25.

I suspect Google changed something as the default gmail.com login page also looks different. It may not have anything to do with FF 25.

Hopefully the brilliant Winged-Devs can work around this.
    -----------------

From what I can tell, Gmail Notifier uses gmail itself to link your accounts together - which may be a privacy issue for some people. But Gmail Checker is smarter because it stores your account info locally, which I prefer.

  16. I can confirm that I have the same problem while on FF 24. Nothing to do with FF 25.

  17. Same issue here. The debug log shows the source code from the gmail login page, which has recently changed. Of particular interest is this line:

    [31 October 2013 01:08:10 PM] SET COOKIE:
[31 October 2013 01:08:11 PM] RESPONSE: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80040111 (NS_ERROR_NOT_AVAILABLE)

That last line has more text going further, which I am sure you can draw and analyze yourself.

    I also found this interesting:

    [31 October 2013 01:08:12 PM] GAIA_LOGINFORM NOT FOUND:

Did the gmail login change so much that it broke this extension?

  18. Gmail's login page has been changed recently so I need to rework the login implementation of the extension. Need a bit of time. Thanks for your patience.

  40. I can login on google apps account, and can check unread email, but it won't open the email tab when clicked. I get 'Server Error' from google, complaining about not being in a GoogleApps domain.

    Url looks like: https://www.google.com/a/gmail.com/ServiceLogin?service=mail&passive=true&rm=false&continue=https://mail.google.com/a/gmail.com/?account_id%3Druben@mydomain.com%26message_id%3D14231e1dcaa2e28a%26view%3Dconv%26extsrc%3Datom&ltmpl=default&ltmplcache=2&emr=1

  43. Firefox25 here too.

If I go to 'open mail' in the account submenu it opens my inbox ok. The only thing that's not working is when I click on the new email title on the menu. It takes me to the url I gave before... If I follow Google's message I get to: https://support.google.com/a/answer/33419?hl=en

    Hope it helps.

  44. Now it works! Something got fixed by itself...
by Ruben on Monday, 11 November 2013, 12:41 pm #
  45. Ruben, it was probably due to cookies and cache's conflict. You might have cleaned the old cookies. The long URL in your original post is generated by Google, not by the extension, to make you log in to an account. The extension uses the URL in the 'continue' part of the long URL.
by NT on Monday, 11 November 2013, 06:32 pm #
  46. The Gmail Checker log-in keeps popping up every day or s0, requirung me to keep signing in. I check the save cookies box or whatever it's called. Why is this. I NEVER signout.

  47. Thank you for Gmail Checker 2.6.3. I've used it for over a year.

In Windows 7 it causes Firefox 25.0.1 to startup very slowly, the HDD keeps running. I have 10+ gmails, no 2-step verification used.

Also scrolling webpages is very slow. When I disable Gmail Checker, the issues are gone.

    Thank you!

  48. I have used Gmail Checker for at least 2 years. Thank you for version 2.6.3.

I do NOT use 2-step verification.

With this version + Firefox 25.0.1, I notice very long start-up and HardDrive is very active. Once it settles down, scrolling webpages is very slow. When I disable Gmail Checker, performance is again very quick. I have tried disabling all addons and have determined Gmail Checker is causing this.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thank you!

  49. for the kast dew days i can't use the extension, google also sent me a mail about "Unusual Activity" on my account, those activitys were sign-in attempts there were block by google, all came from the IP 192.81.209.23.

is this related? is this IP part of the regular opration of the extension or as, google suggested, somebody stole my password?

    Thank you!

  50. Deddy, the extesion does not transmit any data to or from any 3rd-party addresses except yours and Google.

  51. Gmail Checker is not working for me. It used to work fine until earlier today. I keep getting pop-up windows asking me to put in my username and password again (as if it is not working)... but those are the correct username/passwords. Please advise.

  52. GmailChecker will no longer let me check a Gmail account that uses the Business Apps. I had an email address of email@mydomain.com that I pay Google for to use GMAIL. Until earlier today it worked fine. But now all of my normal @gmail accounts work fine in the app... but this one email does not. I keep getting the credential popup saying "failed login" and asking me to re-enter my username/password, which I have done but that does not resolve the issue. I can login to this email account fine at a normal GMAIL login screen. I have cleared cookies, cache, and history... doesn't work. Please help!
