Gmailchecker 2-step verification

Tuesday, 4 August 2015

I haven't got time to verify any changes regarding Gmail's 2-step verification. I'll look into it as soon as I've got a chance.

Update 21/12/2015: Extension Verification

If the extension got disabled on your Firefox due to not being verified. Please reinstall it from the addons.mozilla.org website (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/gmail-checker/)

  5. Hello,
can you tell me some details on the SSL checkbox?
    Is it secure to use?
Or leave that check box empty?
If I tick it, enable SSL and logging in than Google sends security e-mail, that an application is trying to log in with the right password but in an unsupported or unsecure way. So they prevent login.
What is this and why do I get this e-mail?

    Thanks

  6. Hi.

Just started using your extension this weekend when the old, old, old gmail-manager seemed to completely block Firefox. Your seems a neat and compact version.

I'm also having same problem as Peter with the security emails, I even switched off SSL but they still come. Odd as Gmail clearly allows the extension to check for mail but just seems to throw this up every so often and then carries on allowing access quite happily.

Many thanks for your time and effort.

  10. Is it wise to disable the signature verification setting? Does it really make the browser more secure or is it just lipservice from mozilla? Does this also mean that any addons that are not offered on mozilla's site will be considered unsecure and disabled?

  11. Hi,
After last update I don't see the counters of new posts in the context menu. Is it possible to fix it? Please help, if so. Thanks.

  12. I recently installed Gmail Checker (2.6.6) for the first time, but I am unable to use it because the Manage Accounts window will never open for me. I have 2-factor verification turned on so I need to use that window to setup my account, but whenever I click to open it it shows up for a second and then immediately disappears. I attempted opening the dialog with the Debug Window open, but nothing was logged.

P.S. I tried turning off 2-factor verification temporarily and it lets me log in, but the Manage Accounts dialog still does not work.

  17. the addon 'Privacy Badger' was causing the issue, it seems it prevents the checker from accessing gmail.

  18. Hi,

I very much like your FF add-on, as it allows for / is supposed to allow for 2-factor authentication on my gmail accounts.

Contrary to other FF add-ons, I should add to that.
    So hail thee!

However, I am not able to connnect, though.
YES - I read the Google instruction about creating an APP-SPECIFIC password. And so I did.
ALSO - I have saved this password under Manage Accounts from within the FF-Addin.

However - still I am NOT able to login to gmail at all. The small login screen (entered: email address + once more the App-specific OR normal gmail password).... this login screen symply keeps on popping-up, without ANY login taking place.

    What could be wrong??
    Thanks,
    Jimmy

  26. Since Gmail's log-in interface has changed over the past few days, Gmail Checker 2.6.6 fails to log in.

It has worked perfectly so far and made our lives easier.

Kindly look into it and make it work so that your loyal users are not disappointed.

I have looked into several such addons and nothing compares to Gmail Checker's simplicity and efficiency. Many thanks for this wonderful addon.

  35. I have been using Gmail Checker 2.6.6 in Pale Moon browser until recently when it stopped working.

I looked for alternative and found that "Checker Plus for Gmail" is a better option. However, it doesn't seem to work for the latest version of Firefox, and is not available for my Pale Moon too.

So, just for checking my multiple email accounts, I temporarily switch over to Google Chrome where "Checker Plus for Gmail" chrome extension is working flawlessly. (And I continue to use Pale Moon for my other browsing needs.)

Still, I will say, Checker Plus for Gmail is not as compact as Gmail Checker.

I request the developer of Gmail Checker to look into this to cater to the desperate and raving fans of Gmail Checker. For users, I would suggest Checker Plus for Gmail as a temporary alternative till this is fixed.

  36. Well,
I won't switch browser only to use a plugin rather than another.
I'm using gmail notifier app , it's good only problem is that it can connect to 5 gmail account and nothing more. Hell.
I hope trinh will reply to our calls ,
or we have to wait some new hero ready to code this fantastic plugin ex novo .

    Let's hope !

  37. I think if people want the 2-step verification feature, they should use a different add-on. Clearly, it's just extra work for Trinh, who has done so much already.

If that were removed, then hopefully just the basic functionality wouldn't be too much to ask. If only Google didn't make so many damn changes, none of this would be necessary.

All of your work, Trinh, is very much appreciated regardless. Thank you.
    by Stuart D on Sunday, 28 May 2017, 09:18 am #
  38. Thanks for fixing this last time and that is why I kick in some donations. If more people who donate then Trinh may be more apt to fix the problems sooner. This is a killer app for me and my 38 gmail accounts. I hope you fix the latest problem soon. Thanks!
    by Ted C on Sunday, 28 May 2017, 05:53 pm #
  39. it would be nice if the developer actually took a minute to acknowledge that he is still around, alive and willing to update the app.

5 other similar app developers have all said they are working to resolve the problem..i basically think after 3 weeks on here and no acknowledgement to any of the comments its sadly the end of Gmail checker...obviously donations are taken and the user quickly forgotten (i was one of them, who gave yearly!!!)
by zapa on Monday, 29 May 2017, 06:52 am #
  40. Three weeks? It has been more than a year and a half since he has posted. If we're lucky Google will fix something that's broken. Otherwise we need a new checker. I just came by t see if anyone was recommending anything for Firefox....
by mike on Monday, 29 May 2017, 07:43 am #
  41. Well,
    abandon any hope,
I tried all that there's out there to try,
checker plus is pure shit, and so others.
Gmail notifier is smth but only 5 mail accounts allowed and no ability to open gmail webpage for any of them.

    We're wanderers...

I emailed Trinh.. but no reply..
for what we are able to know if could be dead.

Some good programmer should help us.

    ;-\

    No further choice.

  42. Everybody needs to take a time out. I know Trinh has other things taking his time. If people just complain he will not fix anything. He is doing this in his spare time. The people who seem to complain every time this happens ought to write there own code instead of complaining about others who do this work for free. Everybody just needs to chill!
    by Geekster123 on Tuesday, 30 May 2017, 09:13 pm #
  43. I understand that very well...
I just wanted to tell you that the program is no longer working.
I have great respect for his work and I hope he will find time. It would be very nice if it could work again. It's just the best.
I wish him a good time to chill...
by Claudia on Wednesday, 31 May 2017, 10:29 pm #
  44. Sorry, I don't believe Trinh is just busy. This program is widely listed as abandoned and has been for a long time...as are his other projects. It was a great addon, but with Goggle's relentless tinkering it is not practical as an unpaid project. I'm heading out of here now, and am moving to Gmail Notifier Pro. It's not nearly as good, but better than others out there.
by Mike on Saturday, 3 June 2017, 02:38 am #
  45. I have come to the conclusion that the development of Gmail Checker 2.6.6 has been abandoned for whatever reason, and am currently using "Checker Plus for Gmail".

Nearly 10,000 5-star ratings for https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/checker-plus-for-gmail/oeopbcgkkoapgobdbedcemjljbihmemj?hl=en !!!!!!!! I use Chrome with this extension just for checking Gmail accounts, and Firefox for my other browsing (because this extension for Firefox is not compatible with my current version of Firefox).......

  46. Well,
I'm happy to tell you that we found a very similar addon that does the same work:

    Have fun !

And waiting Trin's return as well after all!
